HOCKEY — 05 February 2015

One of the oldest and most historic rivalries in NHL history is set to go to the next level as the Boston Bruins will host the Montreal Canadiens in the 2016 Winter Classic. The game is set to be played on January 1st 2016 in Gillette Stadium which is home to the reigning Super Bowl Champions, New England Patriots. The Boston Bruins and Montreal Canadiens are two of the Original Six franchises in the NHL and have faced off against one another an astounding 890 times with the Montreal Canadiens seeing the better of those games with a 450-337-103 record. The rivalry has seen seven Stanley Cup series and a number of Hall of Fame players and coaches such as Maurice Richard, Scotty Bowman, Don Cherry, Bobby Orr and many others.

What is going to make this game even more exciting is the fact that this game should have playoff implications. The Montreal Canadiens and Boston Bruins are currently the 2nd and 8th ranked teams in their Conference and any win against a Conference opponent is much needed, especially if your in the bottom half of the playoff bracket. Not to mention whether HBO decides to bring back their 24/7 series or if the NHL airs another of their EPIX Road to the Winter Classic series, it will make for great television as the fans will get to see a behind the scenes look with some of the biggest names and talkers in the NHL, such as P.K. Subban, Zdeno Chara and Brad Marchand.
