HOCKEY — 15 May 2012

Team Canada clinched the top spot in the Helsinki pool at the IIHF World Hockey Championship with their 5-1 win Tuesday morning against Belarus.

Ryan O’Reilly contributed 2 of the 5 goals for Canada. Corey Perry, Ryan Getzlaf and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins scored the remaining 3.

The opponent for Canada in the quarter final will be determined after games taking place later today.

Securing the number one need was a huge accomplishment for Canada; it ensures they will  not face the Russians until the finals. Russia has been bad news for Team Canada over the last four years, knocking them out of the tournament each year.
