HOCKEY — 16 May 2012
Canadian defenceman Marc Methot will have to sit out for the quarter-finals after being suspended for one game at the IIHF World Hockey Championship.
Methot was ejected during Canada’s victory over Belarus late in the game after slamming Vevgeni Kovyrshin into the boards.
His hit was classified as “reckless and dangerous” by the IIHF’s disciplinary panel. He will be able to return should Team Canada make it to the semi-finals.
Canada finished first in their pool with 6 wins and 1 loss at the hands of the USA during the preliminary round.
Canada is set to play Slovakia on Thursday in the quarter-finals.
