Chael Sonnen might be more well known for his antics out of the octagon then he is for his fighting abilities. In other words, Sonnen is known for his smack-talking abilities.
In recent weeks, Sonnen has made an effort to call out light-heavyweight champion Jon “Bones” Jones.
“I could go up to 205, and I could take Jon Jones‘ belt the same as I could take his candy on Halloween – a little punk kid, I’d snatch it away all I want,”Sonnen said while on Fuel TV’s “UFC Tonight,”
“But there’s something to be said in sportsmanship for earning your shot. And on the 29th of December, I’m going to go through Forrest to do it.”
Unfortunately for Sonnen, UFC president Dana White does not feel that a victory over Forrest Griffin entitles Sonnon to another championship fight.
“He’s a long way away,” White said. “He’s not coming off the (Anderson) Silva fight and just talking his way into a 205-pound world title shot.”
“[Sonnen] is going to have to beat a couple of the best of the world,” White said. “If he beats Forrest Griffin, we’ll shoot him right into the Top 5 and let him fight some of those guys there, and we’ll see what happens.”
What people are already forgetting is that Jones has to get through one of the most decelerated MMA fighters ever, Dan “Hendo” Henderson. A man who’s right hand could easily change things up in the light-heavyweight division.
“I don’t think people are giving Dan Henderson enough credit for this fight,” White said. “Dan Henderson is awesome. He’s a three-time world champion, and … he’s got the style to beat Jon Jones. He’s got a rock-solid chin, he’s a great wrestler, and he’s got knockout power in both hands.
“Dan Henderson is unlike anybody that Jones has ever fought. he’s a guy that’s going to keep moving forward, he’s going to put pressure on him, and he’s going to be dropping bombs on him the entire time.”
