The captain of the Detroit Red Wings, Nicklas Lidstrom will announce his retirement at a press conference Thursday morning.

General manager Ken Holland is scheduled to be in attendance as the 42 year old, four time Stanley Cup Champ announces his retirement from the NHL.

In addition to his four Stanley Cup Championships, Nicklas Lidstom has seven Norris Trophies for being the NHL‘s top defenceman, a Conn Smyth Trophy for MVP of the playoffs in 2002 and an Olympic Gold medal he earned with Sweden in 2006.
