UFC bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz has torn his ACL and has been forced to withdraw from his UFC 148 bout against opposing “The Ultimate Fighter: Live” coach Urijah Faber.
Dana White tweeted: “It’s true Cruz blew his ACL. Stay tuned for more info.”
The UFC has not made any official announcements as to whether or not Faber will take another fight in the interim or wait for Cruz to recover.
Cruz and Faber are currently starring as the opposing head coaches on “The Ultimate Fighter: Live.” This would have been their third meeting, second in the UFC. Faber won the first back at WEC 26 via submission, defending his WEC featherweight title. In 2011, Cruz was the victor with a unanimous-decision at UFC 132; defending this time a title of his own.
UFC 148 takes place July 7th in Las Vegas, NV at the MGM Grand Garden Arena. Due to recent logistical issues, Anderson Silva vs Chael Sonnen II was moved to the main event of this card. Consequently, a good thing following the news of this injury.
No information is available yet as to when we can expect Dominick Cruz to be ready to return to the octagon.
