Welcome to week 1 of the NFL season ladies and gents. Some of you maybe having trouble with your weekly wagers between friends, family or even your bookies, so I’m here to help! Every week I’ll give you a list of my picks based on my personal analysis of each match up with a quick write up on those analysis. So lets get it started!
Green Bay Packers at Seattle Seahawks:
Don’s Pick: Seattle Seahawks
Seattle is simply just a better overall team. Russell Wilson has been on top of his game since mid-season last year and Marshawn Lynch is as good as advertised as “BEASTMODE” rushing for over 4000 yards and 30 touchdowns in 3 seasons with the team. The Legion of Boom is easily the best defence in the league and their special teams is always a threat with Percy Harvin returning kicks. The Packers are always in contention with Aaron Rodgers at the helm but with a rookie center and a weak offensive line, the team may have troubles with pass protection and rushing the ball.
Lynch bulldozes his way into the end zone
New Orleans Saints at Atlanta Falcons:
Don’s Pick: New Orleans Saints
The Falcons should have a rebound year after last seasons 4-12 record as they get Julio Jones and Steven Jackson back from injury. They did lose Tony Gonzalez but with the emergence of Harry Douglas last season, the Falcons should still be a top rated passing threat. The defence however is another question allowing an average of 27 points per game last season and have not made many changes coming into the 2014 season. The Saints are always a powerhouse offensively and with a healthy Mark Ingram coming into his third season, the rushing attack should be improved. The defence improved last year under defensive co ordinator Rob Ryan and should see further improvements with another year under their belt.

San Francisco 49ers at Dallas Cowboys:
Don’s Pick: San Francisco 49ers
In years past this game would look like an easy pick but with the numerous losses to the 49ers defence and an ageing running back in Frank Gore this game should be much closer than people will think. The 49ers have lost stars Navorro Bowman, Donte Whitner and Aldon Smith leaving that defence vulnerable in both the rushing and passing game. As stated Frank Gore is 31 and beginning to get to that age where running backs typically begin to slip in their careers. The Cowboys have always been great statistically in the passing game but have often missed DeMarco Murray with injuries. The defence was statistically the worst defence in the league last year and with no additions and the loss of DeMarcus Ware to the Broncos and Sean Lee to injury, look for the Cowboys to consistently be in shoot outs.
Patrick Willis crushes Ricky Williams
Indianapolis Colts at Denver Broncos:
Don’s Pick: Denver Broncos
The Colts were able to pull off the surprise victory as the first team to beat the Broncos last season but I don’t see them pulling it off this season. The Colts haven’t added anyone significant to the team this off season and I don’t expect much improvement in running back Trent Richardson this season as he struggled to find his way in the offence last season. Andrew Luck is one of the better young quarterbacks in the league but is going against a much improved Bronco defence. The Broncos have added star players such as DeMarcus Ware, Aqib Talib and TJ Ward to an already potent defence and with a healthy Von Miller, look for that defence to be ranked amongst the best in the league. The Broncos offence is always a threat with Peyton Manning tossing the ball around and with the addition of Emmanuel Sanders, look for the Broncos offence to pick up where it left off even with the loss of Eric Decker.
Peyton Manning breaks single season TD record with 55
San Diego Chargers at Arizona Cardinals:
Don’s Pick: San Diego Chargers
The Chargers haven’t made many acquisitions this off season but were stellar last year under first year Head Coach Mike McCoy. I look for a bigger leap in production from Philip Rivers with another season in McCoy’s system and with a healthy Ryan Mathews the Chargers offence will be hard to keep out of the end zone. Carson Palmer should improve in his second season with Bruce Arians and the Cardinals defence will be a force to be reckoned with. The Cardinals will be a surprise team in the upcoming 2014 season but will fall just shy of a win in the season opener.
