Welcome to another edition of Don’s Weekly Pick’s: NFL Divisional Playoff Round. So with the sting of the Wild Card round finally starting to fade, it’s time to open those wounds and see what went wrong. Well, I started by missing on picking the Steelers to beat the Ravens in a game that I thought would be MUCH closer than it was. I than picked the Lions to beat the Cowboys in a game in which I didnt account for Jerry Jones to provide his own referees to call a Dallas favoured football game (no bitterness what-so-ever, Doug/Lamar lol). So, lets recap!
Playoff Record: 2-2
- Indianapolis Colts: Wins
- Pittsburgh Steelers: Loss
- Carolina Panthers: Win
- Detroit Lions: Loss
So, let’s talk Don’s Weekly Pick’s: NFL Divisional Playoff Round. There are a couple of interesting story lines in this week’s match-ups. The Baltimore Ravens and the New England Patriots have had a number of Playoff battles over the past couple of years so there should be no love lost between these two teams. The Indianapolis Colts play the Denver Broncos, a game in which will have a battle of former Colts great Peyton Manning, taking on his replacement Andrew Luck. We have a game that has two teams, one of which is undefeated at home and the other is 7-1 on the road as the Dallas Cowboys take on the Green Bay Packers at home in Lambeau. Finally, we have the upset pick, Carolina Panthers taking on the framer Super Bowl Champs, Seattle Seahawks. So, lets get started!
Baltimore Ravens vs New England Patriots
Dons Pick: New England Patriots
Now, I know this is a pretty boring pick and the Patriots are clearly favoured, so its easy to take them in this game but they’re favoured for a reason. The New England Patriots have been absolutely dominant and since having a healthy Rob Gronkowski, they’ve steamrolled through their competition. Now, I know there are Ravens fans reading this ready to point out that the Patriots just lost to the Buffalo Bills two weeks prior and that is true but they’re division rivals and see each other twice a year, so the Bills have a pretty good idea as to how to play the Patriots. Not to mention, did you see how the Patriots comeback after losing to the Cincinnati Bengals? Let me remind you, they went on an absolute tear, winning their next 6 games. I look for a close battle but with the man they call Tom Brady, driving his team to a New England win. (See, I can be objective about your team Eric/Greg)

Indianapolis Colts vs Denver Broncos
Dons Pick: Denver Broncos
I don’t care what anyone thinks but Im picking this game for the same reason I picked the Lions, because Im a fan! Peyton Manning is my all-time favourite quarterback and I would love to see him take another step towards winning another Super Bowl. Not to mention, Denver is a pretty darn good football team and they’re playing at home. So its not exactly like I’m picking a team with no shot here. Indianapolis has been streaky all season and despite putting up impressive numbers in touchdowns and passing yards, Andrew luck has also thrown a lot of interceptions. Denver has one of the better blitzing defences in the NFL and with no running game the Colts are going to have a difficult time moving the ball down field. Denver also has a good secondary with Aquib Talib and TJ Ward, so look for a lot of blitzes and a lot of deflected passes for the young Colts quarterback. I look for the Denver Broncos to get a win at home by a pair of touchdowns.

Dallas Cowboys vs Green Bay Packers
Dons Pick: Dallas Cowboys
This is tough for me because I hate to say this after Dallas just bought their way into this game but I have to be fair. If Aaron Rodgers was healthy, I would pick Green Bay all day especially at home but Rodgers is not healthy. His hamstring is far worse than he’s leading on and without him, the Packers will fold. The Cowboys defence isn’t exactly menacing but the Packers without Rodgers are not exactly striking fear into anyone teams hearts. The Green Bay defence is middle of the pack so the Cowboys should be able to have their way with them and if the Green Bay offence isn’t hitting on all cylinders than the Packers are in for their first loss at home on the season. I look for Dallas to win by a pair of touchdowns and continue their dominance on the road.

Carolina Panthers vs Seattle Seahawks
Dons Pick: Seattle Seahawks
Yep, another boring pick and I hate to do it but it must be done. The Seahawks are stuck on Beastmode and will likely have their way in the NFC Playoff picture. Russell Wilson is one of, if not the best game managing quarterbacks in all of football and yes, I said game managers! Look at his stats and tell me he isn’t because you can’t. I mean, 20 touchdowns isn’t exactly carrying your team on your back, especially when you have a defence like he does and a running back like does. Maybe its unfair to call him a game manager but it could be worse. Look at Troy Aikman, he is the greatest game manager of all-time. Yes, his stats are good but not great and they could have been better but he played with a great defence and a great running game and has 3 Super Bowls because of it. So tell me Seahawks fans, would you rather me call him a game manager and he continue to win or would you rather him be known as Tony Romo? Just some food for thought. I haven’t talked about Carolina at all and I won’t because there is no way they win this game. They upset an Arizona team last week who were starting their 3rd string quarterback, that was a fluke that they won that game. Look for Seattle to get an easy win at home.
