FOOTBALL — 21 December 2014

Welcome to another edition of Don’s Weekly Pick’s: Week 16! Last week was another successful edition as I went 11-5, so where did I go wrong? Well first I picked a Johnny Manziel led Cleveland Browns squad to beat the Jekyl and Hyde Cincinnati Bengals (there you go Jon! lol). Secondly, I missed on picking Philadelphia Eagles to beat the Dallas Cowboys yet again (Dougie and Lamar, I’m sure I’ll hear from you later! lol). Than, I missed on picking the point machine Green Bay Packers to beat the low scoring Buffalo Bills who held Aaron Rodgers to ZERO touchdowns (I know Kyle!). I than thought the Tampa Bay Buccaneers would shock the NFC South and beat the Cam Newton less Carolina Panthers. Finally, I picked the most confusing team in all of football, the Chicago Bears to beat the New Orleans Saints (Are they seriously going with Jimmy Clauson? Nick). So, Lets Recap!

Current Record: 140-82-1

  • Cleveland Browns: Loss
  • Denver Broncos: Win
  • Detroit Lions: Win
  • Seattle Seahawks: Win
  • Philadelphia Eagles: Loss
  • Arizona Cardinals: Win
  • Pittsburgh Steelers: Win
  • New York Giants: Win
  • New England Patriots: Win
  • Kansas City Chiefs: Win
  • Indianapolis Colts: Win
  • Baltimore Ravens: Win
  • Green Bay Packers: Loss
  • Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Loss
  • New York Jets: Win
  • Chicago Bears: Loss

So lets talk Don’s Weekly Pick’s: Week 16! There are actually a few interesting things to follow this week of the NFL. The 49ers are eliminated from the playoff race but the Chargers could keep themselves in with a win in San Francisco, could the 49ers play upset and take the Chargers down with them? The Ravens vs the Texans will be a game to look out for as the Texans defence will likely keep this game competitive despite not having either of the starters in at quarterback this week. the Falcons and the Saints look to keep their playoff hopes alive in a divisional matchup for the chance to possibly win the NFC South title. Alex Smith and the Chiefs will play the Pittsburgh Steelers in what will surely have some playoff implications on the line. Finally the NFC West title is up for grabs this weekend as the Cardinals and the Seahawks play each other, so can the Cardinals despite losing Carson Palmer hold on to the top spot? So, lets get started!

San Diego Chargers vs San Francisco 49ers

Dons Pick: San Diego Chargers

The 49ers have had the Chargers number over the past two years but the 49ers just do not seem to have what it takes to win consistently this year. The Chargers are looking to stay in the playoff hunt and will have extra motivation to perform well on the road. The 49ers could very well play upset here and have the talent to do so but I just don’t see them coming out with the motivation to really play that role. I look for the 49ers to come out flat and perform much of the way they have all season. Look for a big day from Philip Rivers and to control the clock with Ryan Matthews.

Baltimore Ravens vs Houston Texans

Dons Pick: Baltimore Ravens

This will be a much better game than most would think with Case Keenum as the starting quarterback for the Texans offence. The Texans defence will keep this game competitive and the offence will control the clock with the running game as Arian Foster is an absolute beast. The Baltimore Ravens though are simply just a better team and will walk away with a road victory in Houston. The Ravens offence is underrated and one of the better in the NFL right now. They run the ball well, their explosive throwing and have a defence that can stand with the best of them. Look for the Ravens to come out on top of the game in a tight battle. (This should make you happy Cody!)

Detroit Lions vs Chicago Bears

Dons Pick: Detroit Lions

This is easy folks, my Lions are going to pummel the Bears. The Bears are starting Jimmy Clausen against one of the top 5 rated defences, good luck! With all due respect and remember I am saying with all due respect but theres a reason why he’s been a backup quarterback, he’s simply not any good. This has got to be one of the worst moves in the NFL this season as despite Jay Cutler’s less than inspiring performances this year, he’s still one of the top 20 quarterbacks in the NFL. If the GM didn’t deserve to get fired than he does now as this proves more than ever that this man has no idea what he’s doing. How can start Clausen against one of the top ranked defences in the NFL. Look for the Bears to simply get beat up in this game as the Lions run away with a victory in Chicago.

Indianapolis Colts vs Dallas Cowboys

Dons Pick: Indianapolis Colts (Sorry, Dougie and Lamar! lol)

Man, this is TOUGH! I simply have just gone back and forth on this pick at least a hundred times. This is one of those games that you just shouldn’t have to pick because you know its going to be a back and forth shoot out between to great teams with quarterbacks that could ultimately make anything happen. Theres no predicting when it comes to Andrew Luck and Tony Romo as both quarterbacks have the ability to make magic and win any ball game at any given moment. This pick for me is ultimately going to come down to Andrew Luck as if I had to decide who had the better shot with 2 minutes left to win the game than Ive gotta go with the Colts starter. I love Romo and realize that he’s one of the best quarterbacks statistically in 4th quarter comebacks but this season alone Romo has struggled at times and Luck has had to comeback and win games on his back alone. Sorry Dallas fans but Ive gotta go Colts.

Seattle Seahawks vs Arizona Cardinals

Dons Pick: Seattle Seahawks

I wanna go Cardinals as Bruce Arians is easily the Coach of the Year in my books but the Seahawks are simply playing at another level right now. They really come together at the right time to not only take the NFC West division but make a solid run at another Super Bowl. I hate to say it as there is still some animosity towards them beating Peyton Manning in last years Super Bowl but they are hitting it at the right time. Russell Wilson is one of the top quarterbacks in the league and with Ryan Lindley running the ship for Arizona the Cardinals are in some serious trouble! Look for Seattle to simply just beat up the Cardinals and take the NFC West for another year. (there you go Dylan!)
