FOOTBALL — 17 October 2014

Welcome to another addition of Don’s Weekly Pick’s: Week 7! Last week I went 10-4-1, taking my first tie of the season as neither the Bengals or the Panthers could pull out a win (disappointing). So where did I go wrong? Well, first of all I missed on the Falcons beating the Bears. Neither of these teams can play consistent football and both seem to be hot one week and off another. Than I took the Steelers to once again beat the Browns but much like the Bears and Falcons, the Steelers seem to be quite the up and down team this season (its almost like I predicted they would go 8-8 in another article hmmm … interesting). I was than blasphemous against my Lions and picked them to lose to the Vikings because Im “that guy” (I know Dylan, Im an idiot)! Finally, like everyone else on the planet who was picking football games this past week, I picked the Seahawks to beat the Cowboys. Seriously, almost a week later I’m still in WOW! So lets recap:

Current Record: 55-35-1

  • Indianapolis Colts: Win
  • New England Patriots: Win
  • Green Bay Packers: Win
  • Atlanta Falcons: Loss
  • Philadelphia Eagles: Win
  • Pittsburgh Steelers: Loss
  • Cincinnati Bengals: Tie
  • Tennessee Titans: Win
  • Denver Broncos: Win
  • Minnesota Vikings: Loss
  • Baltimore Ravens: Win
  • San Diaego Chargers: Win
  • Seattle Seahawks: Loss
  • Arizona Cardinals: Win
  • San Fransisco 49ers: Win

So lets talk Week 6! There are some big games this week that should be a lot of fun to watch. The Bengals head up to Indianapolis to the Colts, the Chiefs play the Chargers in San Diego and the 49ers are in Denver to play the high powered Broncos. There are also some lousy games that should be a bit of a snoozefest such as Jets vs Patriots, Seahawks vs Rams and the Cardinals vs Raiders. Than there are some games that should be pleasant surprises as the Browns play the Jaguars and the Titans play the Redskins. So lets give it a go!

Cincinnati Bengals vs Indianapolis Colts

Don’s Pick: Indianapolis Colts

The Bengals looked good the few weeks of the season but have tailed off the past two. The Colts have been an offensive powerhouse this year and Andrew Luck is looking like a young (and mobile) Peyton Manning. Andy Dalton is a good QB but Luck is simply on another level. Unlike Dalton, Luck can carry his team on his back and do whatever is necessary to win. The Bengals have a better running game as Giovani Bernard can be a major threat as he’s rushed for 384 yards and 4 TD’s while Trent Richardson has pretty much been a dud but has improved the past 2 weeks. Look for Luck to lead his team in a come from behind win at home.

Miami Dolphins vs Chicago Bears

Don’s Pick: Chicago Bears

I wanna say Dolphins but with a injured Knowshon Moreno and the Bears playing at home, I’m going to take the Chicago at home. Neither team has been overly impressive this season and neither team really have an elite QB. Yes I said it, Jay Cutler is not an elite QB. I am a big fan and understand he has a howitzer for an arm but he’s just been FAR too inconsistent to be consider elite. Not to mention he has one of the best receiving cores in all of football and yet he still throws as many TD’s as Int’s. With that being said Ryan Tannehill is worse as the former college receiver has shown glimpses of greatness but just has not been able to pull it together (sorry phil). Look for the Bears to win in what could be one ugly of a football game.

New Orleans Saints vs Detroit Lions

Don’s Pick: Detroit Lions

Thats right folks, I’m going with the Detroit Lions. I’ve picked against them a number of times as I didn’t trust that defence, despite its number 1 ranking but its time for me to commit. Im putting my chips in and I’m riding my Lions all the way the rest of the season (I think at least). The only catch 22 is the now that the Lions defence is finally playing amazing, the offence isn’t keeping its end of the bargain. Matt Stafford and the rest of the offence has struggled since Week 1 to put up points as they rank 23rd in the NFL, 23rd!!! So how am I taking the Saints? Well Drew Brees and the boys have also struggled and if the Lions defence can continue to do what they’ve done than Detroit may surprise some people. Look for Stafford to lead his to a late 4th quarter win.

Kansas City Chiefs vs San Diego Chargers

Don’s Pick: San Diego Chargers

The Chiefs have really picked up their game the past couple weeks but the Chargers have been playing lights out all season. Phillip Rivers is playing at an MVP level and is currently my number 2 in the MVP race, right behind DeMarco Murray. Even with Ryan Mathews out with injury, the Chargers have still been able to play good defence and toss the rock around like its no ones business. They rank 3rd in the league in defence and 6th in the league in passing. This game should be close as the Chiefs rank 4th in the league in rushing but look for Rivers to put his team in the end zone at the end of the 4th quarter to win the game.

San Fransisco 49ers vs Denver Broncos

Don’s Pick: Denver Broncos

For me this is easy, Ive gotta choose Peyton Manning over Colin Kaepernick any day! The Broncos have the 4th ranked defence in the league and also in passing. The 49ers have shown glimpses of the power offence they’ve once had but have been widely inconsistent this season. I look for the Broncos blitz to throw Kaepernick off his game and make bad decisions. Look for Peyton to pick the 49ers apart and a Broncos win by a pair of TD’s.

 Best of the Rest:

  • New York Jets vs New England Patriots – Don’s Pick: New England Patriots
  • Atlanta Falcons vs Baltimore Ravens – Don’s Pick: Baltimore Ravens
  • Tennessee Titans vs Washington Redskins – Don’s Pick: Washington Redskins
  • Seattle Seahawks vs St Louis Rams – Don’s Pick: Seattle Seahawks
  • Cleveland Browns vs Jacksonville Jaguars – Don’s Pick: Cleveland Browns
  • Minnesota Vikings vs Buffalo Bills – Don’s Pick: Buffalo Bills
  • Carolina Panthers vs Green Bay Packers – Don’s Pick: Green Bay Packers
  • Arizona Cardinals vs Oakland Raiders – Don’s Pick: Arizona Cardinals
  • New York Giants vs Dallas Cowboys – Don’s Pick: Dallas Cowboys
