After winning his second NBA Championship this season, Dwayne Wade was expected to represent the USA in the 2012 Olympic Games. Unfortunately, Wade will require surgery on his left knee and will be forced to miss the Olympics.
“The doctor’s prognosis was that he deeded surgery immediately,” Jerry Colangelo the chairman of USA Basketball told USA Today Sports on Thursday.
Wade, who will be dearly missed on the team, led the U.S. basketball team in scoring when they won the gold metal in Bejing. He released a statement through USA Basketball expressing regret for having to miss out on the London Games.
“While every part of me wants to be in London, I need to take this time to do what’s best to improve my health and allow me to continue to play the game I love,” he said. “It was an honour to represent my country in 2004 and in 2008 when we won the gold medal. My thoughts and best wishes will travel with Team USA as they prepare to bring home the gold.”
Currently, there are 17 players on the roster pool, 12 of whom will make the final Olympic squad.
