Dwight Howard could be making his first appearance with Kobe Bryant and the Los Angeles Lakers this Sunday in their preseason game against the Sacramento Kings.
Assuming he doesn’t have any complications with his back over the next two days, the Lakers are confident Howard will play on Sunday.
Howard has reportedly had a good recovery from the surgery he had in April to repair a herniated disc in his spine. He has not experienced any setbacks in practice or training camp. He will workout for team doctors on Saturday who will decide whether or not to clear him for play for Sunday.
The Lakers open the season on October 30th against the Dallas Mavericks. Howard spoke to reporters after Thursday’s practice and told them, “I’ll be a little nervous out there for the first time, but [Nash] said he would help me through it and hopefully it will be OK.”
