The San Francisco Giants were able to cancel an order for 20,000 Melky Cabrera T-shirts just in time.
Following his positive drug test and after receiving a 50-game suspension the Giants decided it would be wise not to bother printing his name on any shirts for fans.
Instead, the original shirts hae been replaced by a “Gigantes” version featuring centre fielder Angel Pagan‘s name. They will be used as giveaways for the September 8th games against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Controversy surrounding Cabrera’s suspension and positive drug test escalated after baseball officials discovered that Juan Nunes – a consultant to Cabrera’s agents – purchased a website and tried to create false evidence to support the claim the Melky Cabrera inadvertently took the substance which caused him to fail the drug test.
The 50-game suspension will see Melky Cabrera sidelined until either the 2013 season, or the post-season.
