FOOTBALL — 22 November 2014

Simply put, YES!!! Now, I maybe a little bias in this discussion as Kurt Warner is one of the main reasons why I not only play football but why I play quarterback. The former Rams/Cardinals quarterback was the man when I started to really get into football in 1999, as this was the beginning of “The Greatest Show on Turf“. That season the St Louis Rams took the NFL by storm as they steam rolled their way through to the Super Bowl, capturing their only title in franchise history. Warner had one of the greatest seasons ever played by a quarterback as he threw for 4,353 yards with 43 TD’s and 13 INT’s, winning not only the Super Bowl MVP but the NFL MVP. If you were a fan of football in anyway, you knew about the Kurt Warner story, as he went from filling grocery store shelves to becoming one of the NFL‘s Elite! The story line alone was enough to capture the worlds attention and simply inspired me to want chase after my football dreams.

Greatest Show on Turf Highlights

For a moment ignore his career stats/achievements and simply take a look at the man. He’s a Hall of Fame person! His contributions to the game outside of football and to bettering the communities hes been a part of, alone should be enough to legitimize him as a Hall of Fame player. He established the “Kurt Warner – First Things First Foundation” in 2001 which is a public charity that he uses to better the lives of those in need. His charity sends dozens of children to Walt Disney World each year and puts on numerous events including some of the more recent, Warners Warm-up (a coat drive for the St Louis community), Service Based Mission Trip Scholarship for Youth Groups, Night of Champions (a St Louis Outreach program) and Ultimate Football Experience.

Kurt Warner’s Ultimate Football Experience

Now, lets talk about why he should be inducted into the PRO FOOTBALL HALL OF FAME! His career statistics alone should put him in the Hall of Fame as he has a 93.7 QB rating, a 65.5 completion %, 32 344 yards, 208 TD’s and 128 INT’s. His 32 344 yards are more than current Hall of Fame quarterbacks, Sonny Jurgenson, Len Dawson, Terry Bradshaw and Joe Namath and his QB rating of 93.7 is better than every QB in the Hall of Fame besides Steve Young (pretty impressive!). Than when you take a look at his accolades such as: Super Bowl Champion, Super Bowl MVP, 4x Pro Bowl (1999,2000,2001,2008), 2x First Team All Pro (1999,2001), Walter Payton Man of the Year and 3x NFL MVP (1999, 2000, 2008). It just simply does not get better than that! Than theres the number one reason why Warner should be in the Hall of Fame, that is his post season success. When number 13 was at his best, was when it counted most, the post season! Kurt Warners post season numbers are through the roof as in 13 games he threw for nearly 4000 yards, a 66.5 completion %, 31 TD’s, 14 INT’s and a QB rating of 102.8. That’s UNREAL! Especially when you consider that his 31 TD’s in the post season rank 4th all-time behind Joe Montana (45 in 23 games), Brett Favre (44 in 24 games) and Dan Marino (32 in 18 games). Than too top that, he owns the top 3 passing yard totals in Super Bowl history … thats right HISTORY (see what I’m getting at?) Not to mention he took two of the worst teams in the history of the NFL to the Super Bowl. The St Louis Rams didn’t have more than 7 wins in any of its 10 previous seasons and the Arizona Cardinals hadn’t had double digit wins since they were the St Louis Cardinals in 1976. So to take those two teams from the depths of below mediocrity and bring them to the Super Bowl is simply historic.

Kurt Warner Highlights

In conclusion, Kurt Warner is without argument one of the most accurate and precise QB’s of all-time and arguably the greatest playoff performer statistically in NFL history. If you look at his football resume, it clearly includes every credential needed to get in the Hall of Fame and if you compare his numbers and accolades with his Hall of Fame peers, he either stacks up or exceeds their individual successes in every category.
