After losing one of their best players point guard Rajon Rondo to an ACL tear, trade rumors have been circulating around Kevin Garnett.
Garnett wants nothing to do with the conversation, He expressed his dying love for the Celtics and his desire to retire wearing his green number five jersey. Rumors began to swirl that Kevin Garnett was going to be traded and KG did not like those rumors at all. He was quoted saying:
On a last note, I just want to say that I love my situation here. I don’t know what y’all sources or whoever’s making up these bull—- — articles about me getting traded to Denver and all these other places. But I bleed green and I continue to do that. And if it’s up to me, then I’m going to retire a Celtic. So I just want everybody to know that, alright?”
If Garnett wants to retire a member of the Boston Celtics, his chances for now are pretty good seeing as he has a no-trade clause which allows him to block any trade he doesn’t approve of.
Celtics president of basketball operations Danny Ainge doesn’t seem interested in tearing apart the team they worked so hard to piece together.
“I want to see how our team plays over the next little while before the trade deadline, too,” Danny Ainge said regarding the Garnett rumors. “But I don’t think we’ve had a true test of exactly what team we are yet. And I think that, because I’ve been doing this for 10 years now, but with this group of guys for the last couple of years, I don’t see that much changing. There aren’t a lot of teams that are trying to pursue players of KG and Paul’s age, and I just think that we value them more than other teams value them.”
The NBA trade deadline is February 21st which does give him some time to plan things out and possibly even change his mind.
