ESPN and Major League Baseball have agreed to a deal that will see the MLB on ESPN for the next eight years.
The deal is worth $5.6 billion which is almost doubling the $306 million that ESPN is currently paying the MLB for TV rights every year.
The new deal does include a few more media avenues including digital, international and radio broadcasting, which ESPN currently pays around $50 million for.
The deal will run though 2021 and will allow ESPN to retain the rights to “Sunday night Baseball,” as well as their Monday and Wednesday night games as well as highlights for “Baseball Tonight.”
In addition to the deal, ESPN will now broadcast one wild card playoff game. Something they never had the rights to in their previous deal.
