FOOTBALL — 12 November 2014

As we stroll into week 11 of the 2014 season, I’ve decided to take a little glimpse into the future and make some Playoff Predictions in the NFL. I’ve decided to start with the most controversial conference in which anything can happen as its essentially a crap shoot this season with injuries, backup Quarterbacks starting (and playing well), Superbowl hangovers and the week to week upsets, the NFC. So let’s start with who’s going to win each division and why!

NFC East Champion

Philadelphia Eagles (12-4)

Now I know that DeMarco Murray is playing at an MVP level and the Dallas Cowboys are off to their best start to a season in quite sometime but the Eagles are simply a better team. Dallas could drop a few more games and with Tony Romo‘s health in question, I simply trust Mark Sanchez over Brandon Weeden. Speaking of Mark Sanchez, the former Jets QB is going to steer this team in the right direction and as I stated in Don’s Weekly Pick’s: Week 10, he’s going to play better than he’s going to get credit for and he’s going to pay well! Speaking of Sanchez, in a game and a half since taking over for an injured Nick Foles, Mark is 35/59 for 534 yards with 4 TD’s and 2 INT’s. That is crazy when you think about the fact that he’s gotten limited reps as the backup QB, so he’s only going to improve. The Eagles also have a few studs on the roster in LeSean McCoy, Darren Sproles, Jeremy Maclin, Zach Ertz and even Jordan Matthews. Chip Kelley‘s offense is averaging 31 points and over 400 yards per game, an offensive powerhouse. I look for the Eagles to win at least 5 of their next 7 games and could possibly even win more as they beat the Packers, Titans, split their series with the Cowboys, lose to the Seahawks and than finish strong beating the Redskins and Giants. Sorry Dougie and Lamar but its simply science!

NFC North Champions

Detroit Lions (13-3)

Yes I said it, the Detroit Lions are going to win the NFC North and go 13-3!!! I say this for a number a of reasons. First, I’ll begin with the number ONE defense in the NFL which is what Detroit currently has. Secondly, our offense has not been the typical high powered machine we are accustomed to having as we’ve had multiple injuries to stars like Calvin Johnson and Reggie Bush.Which simply means the offense can only get better as Megatron returned to the lineup this past Sunday and Reggie Bush should be making his way back onto the field any day now. If the offense starts producing as it has, paired with what the defense is finally showing there’s no end to what they might do. Possibly win the Superbowl? … Ok, maybe I’m being a little crazy but as a fan of the Lions, its to be expected (right Dylan)! The team is already 7-2 and have already beaten the Green Bay Packers, so there’s no reason why they can’t again. I look for the Lions to win 6 of their last 7 games, losing only to the New England Patriots as they have a pretty easy schedule facing the Bears (2), Buccaneers and Vikings and will only have a few tough games against the Packers, Cardinals and (obviously) Patriots.

NFC South Champions

New Orleans Saints (8-8)

This is an easy pick as the Panthers easily have the worst offensive line in all of football and if Cam Newton doesn’t over throw his receivers than you can pretty much guarantee that they’re going to drop the ball. Not to mention the rest of this division is absolutely putrid with the Atlanta Falcons and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. This is easily the worst division in the NFL and its disappointing to see an 8-8 team make the Playoffs when there will be some FAR more deserving teams that will narrowly miss the Playoffs as a Wildcard spot with a 10-6 record. Drew Brees is one of the 4 best QB’s in the NFL with Manning, Brady and Rodgers and is always going to make this team a threat as he can put up 400 yards and 4 TD’s in any given game. He’s an absolute surgeon on the field and puts on these great performances with average receivers and only one true offensive threat, Jimmy Graham. I look for the Saints to lose their next 3 games (even though I’m torn with them playing the Bengals as they may win that game, putting them at 9-7) and win out the remaining 4 against the Panthers, Bears, Falcons and Buccaneers.

NFC West Champions

Arizona Cardinals (11-5)

The NFC West is easily one of the best and toughest divisions in all of football and will likely have a 10-6 team miss the Playoffs this year. That team will not be the Arizona Cardinals as despite believing they’ll lose 4 of their last 7 games, I do believe they’ll finish with one more win than both the Seahawks and 49ers. If Carson Palmer were healthy, this would be a runaway team in this division as they’ve already won 8 of their 9 games and have a steady lead on the rest of their division with wins over San Francisco and St Louis. With that being said, Drew Stanton again takes over the Cardinals offense as he’s already started 4 games, winning 3 of them and has playing decently, completing 46/93 for 614 yards with 3 TD’s and no INT’s. Bruce Arians has a lot of faith in Stanton and before signing Palmer was considering starting him the moment he become the Head Coach. Look for Cardinals to drop their games to the Lions, Chiefs and 49ers while splitting their series with Seattle and beating the Falcons and Rams.

Larry Fitzgerald Highlights

1) Seattle Seahawks (10-6)

The Seahawks are suffering from a major case of the Superbowl hangovers as the team has not been as dominate defensively as they were just a year ago. Not mention their offense isn’t playing at a high level either and relying on the legs of Russell Wilson more than they should. The biggest issues for the team are the losses they had both offensively and defensively as they’re missing major pieces to the puzzle in Golden Tate (Detroit, thank you!) and Brandon Browner (New England). They are still a tough team and know what it takes to win. With a win over the Broncos, this team could easily make some noise again once they squeak in as they will likely snag a Wildcard spot with a needed win over Green Bay as they both will likely have 10-6 records.

Russell Wilson Highlights

2) Dallas Cowboys (11-5)

The Dallas Cowboys are one of the more surprising teams to be in this conversation as they’re defence was expected to be historically bad this year. Thats due in part to they’re horrific season last year and losing Sean Lee to injury and DeMarcus Ware to free agency (Broncos) and not really replacing them with any high profile talent. They decided though to prove everyone wrong  and have played FAR above expectations as Barry Church, J.J. Wilcox, Rolando McClain and Justin Durant have really stepped up their games this season. Not to mention MVP candidate DeMarco Murray has stayed injury free and is running lights out! The offensive line is easily the best in all of football as they not only open up gigantic holes for the RB but give Tony Romo the time to do his thing in the pocket. If Romo can stay healthy and Jason Garrett continues the formula for success (run Murray!!!), this team could make some noise in the Playoffs.

Dez Bryant Highlights
