FOOTBALL — 18 September 2012

Well it’s been 2 weeks into the regular season with the NFL Replacement referee’s. There has been some terrible calls, funny calls, no calls and a lot of wrong calls so far this season. Rumour has it that the NFL and Referee’s haven’t spoken since September 1st.

Here is a look at some calls so far by the NFL Replacement referee’s. My personal favourite is the “5 year penalty” handed out in the first quarter of the New York Jets and Pittsburgh Steelers game Sunday.

The NFL also pulled side judge Brian Stropolo from this weekends Saints-Panthers game after finding out information from Facebook that he was a New Orleans Saints fan. A NFL Official removed him from assignment to ensure the integrity of the game. The Philadelphia Eagles LeSean McCoy said the following on 94WIP radio:

“During the game, they made like a bad call or something, the ref, and I see Ray Lewis pump his chest up, trying to scare him. Don’t you know [the ref] started stuttering? I’m like, ‘what’s this?!'” McCoy went on to say “They’re like fans. I’ll be honest, they’re like fans. One of the refs was talking about his fantasy team, [and said], ‘McCoy, come on, I need you for my fantasy [team],’ Uhhh, what?”

The NFL is using a solution that for the moment allows the game to continue without a work stoppage. I wish the NHL could say the same thing.
