Nike went to court on Wednesday to put a stop to their competitor Reebok producing New York Jets‘ Tim Tebow Jerseys.
Nike Inc. claimed in their lawsuit that Reebok International Ltd. has used Tim Tebow‘s name on Jets-related apparel without permission since Tebow’s move to New York from Denver. Nike is set to replace Reebok on Sunday as the supplier of NFL team uniforms.
Nike obtained a temporary restraining order which prevents the sales of the merchandise. Nike believes that Reebok was shipping large volumes of the Tebow-related merchandise which will damage Nike‘s ability to capitalize on a “unique and short-lived opportunity.”
Nike expressed their concerns in the lawsuit that a consumer who purchases an unauthorized Tim Tebow Reebok jersey is highly unlikely to purchase another one from Nike next week.
