San Diego Padres catcher Yasmani Grandal received a 50-game suspension because of a positive drug test. He tested positive for elevated testosterone levels.
The ban will take effect at the start of next season.
”I apologize to the fans, my teammates and to the San Diego Padres,” Grandal said in a statement. ”I was disappointed to learn of my positive test and under the joint drug program. I am responsible for what I put into my body. I must accept responsibility for my actions and serve my suspension.”
There have now been a total of seven suspensions this year under the major league drug program. Seven suspensions in one year is the most the major leagues have seen since 2007!
