The Toronto Blue Jays head to Oakland to take on the Athletics tonight to open a two game series. First pitch is at 10:05 pm ET.
Toronto‘s left-hander Ricky Romero (4-0, 3.64 ERA, 1.071 WHIP, 42 IP, 29 K, 16 BB) will take the mound against The A’s Brandon McCarthy (2-3, 2.96 ERA, 1.380 WHIP, 45.2 IP, 26 K, 13 BB).
The Jays are coming off a loss Sunday in the fourth game of the series against the Los Angeles Angels. However, if his history against the Athletics (4 -0) is any indication of what his performance tonight will look like then Romero should be just fine out there.
The Oakland Athletics are coming off consecutive wins over Tampa Bay, including a 9-5 win Sunday.
With Romero on the mound Tuesday, fans feel good about the Jays chances of bouncing back. Romero didn’t have the best game on Wednesday, allowing five runs to Texas; but it didn’t matter as the team stepped it up at the plate and won 11-5.
“It’s just one of those things where I couldn’t find it, but I was able to settle down,” Romero told the official Blue Jays website. “The offense picked me up today … and I just had to go out and make pitches.”
McCarthy has a 2.18 ERA on his last 3 starts, and is 3-2 against the Blue Jays with a 3.79 ERA.
