BASKETBALL — 08 January 2013

Canadian basketball icon Steve Nash is currently five assists away from having 10,000 NBA career assists.

The Los Angeles Lakers visit the Houston Rockets Tuesday night when Nash will likely pass this career milestone.

Currently, Steve Nash sits #5 on the list of NBA career leaders for assists.

With 49 games remaining in the season and just 147 assists to go before reaching the #4 spot, Steve Nash will need to average 3 assists per game; assuming he plays in every single game. Nash has a career assists per game average of 8.6. and so far for the 2012-13 season he is sitting at 8.8.

Needless to say, if Nash can stay healthy this year, we should be seeing him pass the legendary Magic Johnson on the list of all time greats.

The Toronto Raptors fan inside me is still wishing Steve Nash came to Toronto. Canadians would be so stoked to see him accomplish such a career milestone while playing in Toronto… But that’s the wonderful thing about Canadians; we will still be so proud to see our basketball icon surpass one of history’s greatest.

Jason Kidd passed Mark Jackson on November 25, 2009 to become #2 all-time.
