Welcome to another edition of TAILGATE TALK: Do the Toronto Raptors have the best fans in the NBA? The answer here is simple, YES! For those who may not have heard, a movement here in Canada has begun and its called “We The North“. This chant which started as a simple marketing tool for the Toronto Raptors has turned into something much greater, a movement that has taken the NBA by storm and can be seen across opposing teams arena’s when the Raptors come to town.
This movement started in Cleveland, Ohio when Elite Sports Tours put on a Toronto Raptors Bus Tour which brought 160 screaming Raptors fans to see the Cleveland Cavaliers play our Toronto Raptors. A game in which Quicken Loans Arena seemed more like the Air Canada Centre as 160 Raptors faithful drowned out 20,000+ Cavaliers fans. It started from the very beginning as they sang “Oh Canada” so loud that it could be heard from the Concourse and continued on throughout the night. The Cavaliers even tried showing images of Cleveland rivals in hopes to encourage their fans to boo over the Elite Sports Tours group but had no such luck.

At the demand of the fans, Elite Sports Tours put on another Toronto Raptors Bus Tour to Detroit, Michigan and even had the Toronto Raptors send their film crew for their “Open Gym” series to document the event. Once again, it seemed more like a home game for the Raptors as “We The North” chants filled the Palace Of Auburn Hills. The Pistons even brought the Elite Sports Tours group onto the floor at the end of the game to take a group photo. That photo was on Instagram and Tweeted by Raptors players Landry Fields, Greivis Vasquez and James Johnson, who stole the night with his posterizing dunk on Pistons Center, Andre Drummond.

No other team in the NBA gets this kind of support especially on the road. Even in a city like Cleveland where star players such as Kevin Love, Kyrie Irving and Lebron James who have fan bases of their own despite the team they play for. Lebron James has 18M Twitter and 8.2M Instagram followers where as the Cavaliers only have 600K for both, so the draw of Lebron James alone should be enough to drown out 160 Raptors fans … shouldn’t be? Not when you have a fan base like the Toronto Raptors and a movement such as “We The North” that has been propelled to another level with the kind of push Elite Sports Tours has given it. So to opposing teams I say, look out for the Raptors because they travel with the “We The North Nation“.
