Welcome to another edition of TAILGATE TALK: Marshawn Lynch gets fined $11,050! Thats right folks, Marshawn Lynch has been fined once again but this time its not for his lack of conversation with the media. The ProBowl running back was fined for “Unsportsmanlike Conduct” at the end of his “BEASTMODE” run against the Arizona Cardinals this past weekend. Now, I know some of you are thinking “What did he do at the end of his run?“. Well, when he jumped in the air and spun around to his back to celebrate the touchdown, he grabbed his “groin“.

It seems kind of weak but I can absolutely understand why the NFL would fine him for this. The play is absolutely amazing and will surely be replayed a thousand times, which means little children who look up to and admire Lynch or football players in general, will see this behaviour over and over again. When kids see this type of behaviour and than see it celebrated as its replayed so many times, it leaves the impression that this type of celebration is acceptable. Im a big fan of allowing players to celebrate touchdowns as there is a lot of hardwork that goes into that touchdown and it deserves to be celebrated but there is also a line that needs to be drawn and grabbing your “groin” is certainly not acceptable.

Kay & Peele – Excessive Celebration Skit

Marshawn has had his fill of fines this season as he’s been fined a total of $100,000 for avoiding Media questions after Seattle’s Week 11 loss to the Kansas Cit Chiefs. Lynch was fined $50,000 for the Week 11 snub of the Media and an additional $50,000 for a Media snub from the previous season. Its debatable whether or not players should be forced to answer questions after games if they don’t feel comfortable but its also in their contract, so the league can technically fine him if he denies the Media access after the games. I personally believe that players should have to answer questions from the media if the media wishes to talk to them after the games as its a necessary part of publicizing the NFL brand. If people don’t watch the NFL or the media were not to cover it than there wouldn’t be a venue for player to be paid to play the game that they love. It seems simple enough to me, Media equals money.

Marshawn Lynch Media Conversation – YEAH

Marshawn Lynch is an unbelievable talent and a key reason the Seattle Seahawks are Super Bowl Champions and contenders for this season. He runs like NFL running backs from which the game used to be played, hard nosed, tough and smash mouth or as he is described, “BEASTMODE“. Lynch is one of my favourite players to watch and despite my disagreement in the way he handles the media and his “groin“, I believe he plays the game the way it should be played. Lynch is one of those players who despite the era could play in any decade which makes him one of the NFL’s all-time greats and I expect him to one day get in the Hall of Fame especially if he continues to play at this level for a few more seasons.
