Welcome to another edition of TAILGATE TALK: NFL found NOT GUILTY of lying about Ray Rice! The former head of the FBI, Robert Mueller has finished his 4 month investigation into the NFL’s pursuit and handling of the Ray Rice domestic violence incident.

Robert Mueller released the following Press Release:

“We found no evidence that anyone at the NFL had or saw the in-elevator video before it was publicly shown. We also found no evidence that a woman at the NFL acknowledged receipt of that video in a voicemail message on April 9, 2014″

“We concluded there was substantial information about the incident — even without the in-elevator video — indicating the need for a more thorough investigation. The NFL should have done more with the information it had, and should have taken additional steps to obtain all available information about the February 15 incident”

Robert Mueller served as Director of the FBI for 12 years for two different Presidents. He now serves as a partner for the law firm of WilmerHale in Washington, DC.

The NFL has received much criticism over the way they’ve handled the Ray Rice case and have been accused of lying as to whether they had seen the in-elevator video of the Ray Rice incident. The NFL has been persistent in saying that they had not seen the video and that they were unaware the video existed. This investigation proves at least that the NFL was not lying about whether they had seen the video or not. So fans of the NFL can at least take comfort knowing that the NFL isn’t lying to their fans.

ESPN discuses the NFL lying about the video

This investigation does however prove that the NFL could have done more to further investigate the evidence at hand. Robert Mueller suggests that the NFL should do more to investigate these such incidents on its own rather than waiting on the investigation of law enforcement. Robert Mueller also recommends that the NFL expands the security department by adding supervisory resources and establish a specialized investigative team for domestic violence and sexual assault cases.

Im sure the NFL will take great strides to improve after this investigation as these are some of the major issues within the NFL today and I think the NFL will become better for it.
