Team Canada Olympic Hockey Roster for Sochi might not be something everyone is 100% familiar with. Besides the guys over at TSN who eat, sleep and breathe hockey; some of the more casual sports fans might need a quick update on who will be representing Team Canada at the Olympics. The Goaltending situation features three NHL goalies in Roberto Luongo (Vancouver Canucks), Carey Price (Montreal Canadiens) and Mike Smith (Phoenix Coyotes). Roberto Luongo is the only returning goaltender from the 2010 Winter Olympics and is obviously the veteran of the group.
The defence features some new faces as only Shea Weber (Nashville Predators), Drew Doughty (Los Angeles Kings) and Duncan Keith (Chicago Blackhawks) will be returning from the 2010 squad. Marc-Édouard Vlasic (San Jose Sharks), PK Subban (Montreal Canadiens), Alex Pietrangelo (St. Louis Blues), Dan Hamhuis (Vancouver Canucks) and Jay Bouwmeester (St. Louis Blues) round off Team Canada’s Defence for the Sochi Olympics.
The Forwards for Team Canada feature some new and familiar faces. Unfortunately Star Steven Stamkos wont be able to make the roster due to his leg injury. A major loss as prior to going down Steven Stamkos was playing great hockey and is one of the best forwards around. Team Canada Olympic Roster forwards are Jamie Benn (Dallas Stars), Patrice Bergeron (Boston Bruins), Jeff Carter (Los Angeles Kings), Sidney Crosby (Pittsburgh Penguins), Matt Duchene (Colorado Avalanche), Ryan Getzlaf (Anaheim Ducks), Chris Kunitz (Pittsburgh Penguins), Corey Perry (Anaheim Ducks), Patrick Marleau (San Jose Sharks), Rick Nash (New York Rangers), Patrick Sharp (Chicago Blackhawks), Martin St. Louis (Tampa Bay Lightning), John Tavares (New York Islanders) and Jonathan Toews (Chicago Blackhawks).
The Head Coach of Team Canada’s Men’s Olympic Hockey Team is Mike Babcock (Detroit Red Wings) with Assistant Coaches Ken Hitchcock (St. Louis Blues), Claude Julien (Boston Bruins), Lindy Ruff (Dallas Stars). Top Cheese aka Executive Director is none other than Steve Yzerman (Tampa Bay Lightning).
