Canada’s lone MLB team, the Toronto Blue Jays, have had a week that should go down in the record books!
Some huge trades and signings are now official making Canada’s team suddenly a top contender. It has fans already dreaming about another World Series Title.
On Friday free agent Melky Cabrera, who prior to receiving a 50-game ban for testing positive for testosterone was the 2012 All-Star Game MVP; agreed on a 2 Year Deal with the Toronto Blue Jays.
signed with the Jays. On it’s own this is huge news for the Jays, then on Monday MLB commissioner announced the blockbuster 12-player trade between the Toronto Blue Jays and the Miami Marlins was approved. Tuesday, they announced they have hired-back former manager John Gibbons.
“It is my conclusion that this transaction, involving established major leaguers and highly regarded young players and prospects, represents the exercise of plausible baseball judgment on the part of both clubs, does not violate any express rule of Major League Baseball and does not otherwise warrant the exercise of any of my powers to prevent its completion,” Selig said in a statement regarding his decision. “It is, of course, up to the clubs involved to make the case to their respective fans that this transaction makes sense and enhances the competitive position of each, now or in the future.”
“I have received assurances from the ownership of the Marlins that they … are fully committed to build a long-term winning team that their fans can be proud of,” MLB commissioner Bud Selig added.
