The Toronto Blue Jays signed supplemental first-round pick Matt Smoral on Monday for reportedly twice what the slot value assigned by the MLB for the 50th overall pick was. The Jays selected him with the No. 50 overall pick in this month’s MLB draft.
Smoral is a 6’7″, 225 lbs Ohio native who was projected as a first-round pick by many before he broke a book in his foot earlier this season causing him to miss the majority of the season.
The Toronto Blue Jays reportedly signed Matt Smoral for $2 million. Matt Smoral joins only two other 2012 Blue Jays draft picks to date to sign for more than their slotted value. Third baseman Mitch Nay signed for$1,000,000 vs. $884,100 and outfielder Anthony Alford signed for $750,000 vs. $424,400.
