BASEBALL — 28 September 2012

In his first game back following a three-game suspension, Yunel Escobar heard boo’s coming from his home crowd at the Rogers Centre.

There seemed to be a mix of both boos and cheers from Toronto Blue Jays fans when Escobar batted in the bottom of the first inning against the New York Yankees.

He was suspended by the team earlier this month for having a Spanish slur written on his eye black. Escobar apologized and said he meant it as a joke. The translation is poor and in some translations it is a homophobic slur.

Escobar was suspended without pay, and his salary – about US $82,000- was donated to You Can Play and the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation.
